56. Al-Waaqia

When the event (the Day of Resurrection) will befall

«إذا وقعت الواقعة» قامت القيامة

Verse 1

there will be no denying of its befalling

«ليس لوقعتها كاذبة» نفس تكذب بأن تنفيها كما نفتها في الدنيا

Verse 2

it will bring low (to some), it will exalt (for others)

«خافضة رافعة» أي هي مظهرة لخفض أقوام بدخولهم النار ولرفع آخرين بدخولهم الجنة

Verse 3

When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake

«إذا رجت الأرض رجا» حركت حركة شديدة

Verse 4

and the mountains will be powdered to dust

«وبست الجبال بسا» فتتت

Verse 5

so that they will become floating dust particles

«فكانت هباءً» غبارا «منبثا» منتشرا، وإذا الثانية بدل من الأولى

Verse 6

And then you all will be in 3 kinds (separate groups)

«وكنتم» في القيامة «أزواجا» أصنافا «ثلاثة»

Verse 7

those on the right hand (receive their records in right hands) who will be those on the right hand (will go to Paradise)

«فأصحاب الميمنة» وهم الذين يؤتون كتبهم بإيمانهم مبتدأ خبره «ما أصحاب الميمنة» تعظيم لشأنهم بدخولهم الجنة

Verse 8

and those on the left hand (receive their records in left hands) who will be those on the left hand (will go to hell)

«وأصحاب المشأمة» أي الشمال بأن يؤتى كل منهم كتابه بشماله «ما أصحاب المشأمة» تحقير لشأنهم بدخولهم النار

Verse 9

and those foremost (in Islamic faith) will be foremost (in Paradise)

«والسابقون» إلى الخير وهم الأنبياء مبتدأ «السابقون» تأكيد لتعظيم شأنهم

Verse 10

Those will be nearest (to Allah)

«أولئك المقربون»

Verse 11

in the gardens of delight (Paradise)

«في جنات النعيم»

Verse 12

A most of them will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam)

«ثلة من الأولين» مبتدأ، أي جماعة من الأمم الماضية

Verse 13

and a few will be from the later generations

«وقليل من الآخرين» من أمة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وهم السابقون من الأمم الماضية وهذه الأمة والخبر

Verse 14

(They will be) on thrones of gold and precious stones

«على سرر موضونة» منسوجة بقضبان الذهب والجواهر

Verse 15

reclining on them face to face

«متكئين عليها متقابلين» حالان من الضمير في الخبر

Verse 16

immortal youths will go round serving them

«يطوف عليهم» للخدمة «ولدان مخلدون» على شكل الأولاد لا يهرمون

Verse 17

with cups, jugs, and glasses of flowing wine

«بأكواب» أقداح لا عرى لها «وأباريق» لها عرى وخراطيم «وكأس» إناء شرب الخمر «من معين» أي خمر جارية من منبع لا ينقطع أبدا

Verse 18

from where they will neither get any pain of the head, nor they will get any intoxication

«لا يصدعون عنها ولا ينزَِفون» بفتح الزاي وكسرها من نزف الشارب وأنزف، أي لا يحصل لهم منها صداع ولا ذهاب عقل بخلاف خمر الدنيا

Verse 19

(They will have) fruits of their own choice

«وفاكهة مما يتخيرون»

Verse 20

and the flesh of fowls that they may desire

«ولحم طير مما يشتهون و» لهم للاستمتاع

Verse 21

and Huris (chaste virgins) with wide lovely eyes

«وحور» نساء شديدات سواد العيون وبياضها «عين» ضخام العيون كسرت عينه بدل ضمها لمجانسة الياء ومفرده عيناء كحمراء وفي قراءة بجر حور عين

Verse 22

like guarded pearls

«كأمثال اللؤلؤ المكنون» المصون

Verse 23

as a reward for what they used to do (good deeds)

«جزاءً» مفعول له أو مصدر والعامل المقدر أي جعلنا لهم ما ذكر للجزاء أو جزيناهم «بما كانوا يعملون»

Verse 24

They will neither hear any vain talk therein nor any sinful speech

«لا يسمعون فيها» في الجنة «لغوا» فاحشا من الكلام «ولا تأثيما» ما يؤثم

Verse 25

but the saying of Salam! Salam! (greetings with peace)

«إلا» لكن «قيلا» قولا «سلاما» سلاما بدل من قيلا فإنهم يسمعونه

Verse 26

And those on the right hand who will be those on the right hand

«وأصحاب اليمين ما أصحاب اليمين»

Verse 27

(They will be) among thornless lote-trees

«في سدر» شجر النبق «مخضود» لا شوك فيه

Verse 28

and among banana trees with fruits piled one above another

«وطلح» شجر الموز «منضود» بالحمل من أسفله إلى أعلاه

Verse 29

and in long-extended shade

«وظل ممدود» دائم

Verse 30

and by water flowing constantly

«وماء مسكوب» جار دائما

Verse 31

and fruit in plenty

«وفاكهة كثيرة»

Verse 32

whose season is not limited and their supply will not be cut off

«لا مقطوعة» في زمن «ولا ممنوعة» بثمن

Verse 33

and on high raised couches or thrones

«وفرش مرفوعة» على السرر

Verse 34

Surely, We have created them (maidens) of special creation

«إنا أنشأناهن إنشاءً» أي الحور العين من غير ولادة

Verse 35

and made them virgins

«فجعلناهن أبكارا» عذارى كلما أتاهن أزواجهن وجدوهن عذارى ولا وجع

Verse 36

loving (their husbands only), equal in age

«عرُْبا» بضم الراء وسكونها جمع عروب وهي المتحببة إلى زوجها عشقا له «أترابا» جمع ترب، أي مستويات في السن

Verse 37

for those on the right hand

«لأصحاب اليمين» صلة أنشأناهن أو جعلناهن وهم

Verse 38

A large number will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam)

«ثلة من الأولين»

Verse 39

and a large number will be from the later generations

«وثلة من الآخرين»

Verse 40

And those on the left hand - will be those on the left hand

«وأصحاب الشمال ما أصحاب الشمال»

Verse 41

(They will be) in fierce hot wind and boiling water

«في سموم» ريح جارة من النار تنفذ في المسام «وحميم» ماء شديد الحرارة

Verse 42

and in the shadow of black smoke

«وظل من يحموم» دخان شديد السواد

Verse 43

(that shadow is) neither cool, nor good

«لا بارد» كغيره من الظلال «ولا كريم» حسن المنظر

Verse 44

Surely, they were indulged in luxury before

«إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك» في الدنيا «مترفين» منعمين لا يتعبون في الطاعة

Verse 45

and were persisting in great sin

«وكانوا يصرون على الحنث» الذنب «العظيم» أي الشرك

Verse 46

and they used to say: “When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected

«وكانوا يقولون أئذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظاما أئنا لمبعوثون» في الهمزتين في الموضوعين التحقيق وتسهيل الثانية وإدخال ألف بينهما على الوجهين

Verse 47

and also our forefathers?”

«أو آباؤنا الأولون» بفتح الواو للعطف والهمزة للاستفهام وهو في ذلك وفيما قبله للاستبعاد وفي قراءة بسكون الواو عطفا بأو والمعطوف عليه محل إن واسمها

Verse 48

Say (O Muhammad): “Surely, those of old, and those of later times

«قل إن الأولين والآخرين»

Verse 49

all will surely be gathered together to an appointed meeting of well known Day

«لمجموعون إلى ميقات» لوقت «يوم معلوم» أي يوم القيامة

Verse 50

Then surely, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)

«ثم إنكم أيها الضالون المكذبون»

Verse 51

surely you will eat of trees of Zaqqum

«لآكلون من شجر من زقوم» بيان للشجر

Verse 52

then you will fill your bellies with it

«فمالئون منها» من الشجر «البطون»

Verse 53

and drink from the boiling water on it

«فشاربون عليه» أي الزقوم المأكول «من الحميم»

Verse 54

yet, you will drink like thirsty camels!”

«فشاربون شَُرب» بفتح الشين وضمها مصدر «الهيم» الإبل العطاش جمع هيمان للذكر وهيمى للأنثى، كعطشان وعطشى

Verse 55

That will be their entertainment on the Day of Resurrection

«هذا نزلهم» ما أعد لهم «يوم الدين» يوم القيامة

Verse 56

We created you, then why do you not believe

«نحن خلقناكم» أوجدناكم من عدم «فلولا» هلا «تصدقون» بالبعث إذ القادر على الإنشاء قادر على الإعادة

Verse 57

You see what you emit (semen)

«أفرأيتم ما تمنون» تريقون من المني في أرحام النساء

Verse 58

Is it you who create it (make this semen into a human), or are We the creator

«أأنتم» بتحقيق الهمزتين وإبدال الثانية ألفا وتسهيلها وإدخال ألف بين المسهلة والأخرى وتركه في المواضع الأخرى «تخلقونه» أي المني بشرا «أم نحن الخالقون»

Verse 59

We have decreed the death among you and We are not unable

«نحن قدَّرنا» بالتشديد والتخفيف «بينكم الموت وما نحن بمسبوقين» بعاجزين

Verse 60

to transfigure you by others like yourselves and creates you in forms that you don’t know

«على» عن «أن نبدل» نجعل «أمثالكم» مكانكم «وننشئكم» نخلقكم «في مالا تعلمون» من الصور كالقردة والخنازير

Verse 61

And indeed, you know the first form of creation (of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed

«ولقد علمتم النّشاءَةَ الأولى» وفي قراءة بسكون الشين «فلولا تذكرون» فيه إدغام التاء الثانية في الأصل في الذال

Verse 62

Do you see (the seed) that you sow (in the ground)

«أفرأيتم ما تحرثون» تثيرون في الأرض وتلقون البذر فيها

Verse 63

Is it you who make it grow, or are We the grower

«أأنتم تزرعونه» تنبتونه «أم نحن الزارعون»

Verse 64

If We willed, We could surely make it into dry pieces and you would be regretful

«لو نشاء لجعلناه حطاما» نباتا يابسا لا حب فيه «فظلتم» أصله ظللتم بكسر اللام حذفت تخفيفا أي أقمتم نهارا «تفكهون» حذفت منه إحدى التاءين في الأصل تعجبون من ذلك وتقولون

Verse 65

(saying): “We are indeed ruined

«إنا لمغرمون» نفقة زرعنا

Verse 66

nay, but we are deprived (from the results of our work)!”

«بل نحن محرومون» ممنوعون رزقنا

Verse 67

Do you see the water that you drink

«أفرأيتم الماء الذي تشربون»

Verse 68

Is it you who cause it to come down from the rain clouds or are We Who cause it to come down

«أأنتم أنزلتموه من المزن» السحاب جمع مزنة «أم نحن المنزلون»

Verse 69

If We willed, We could make it salty (undrinkable). Why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)

«لو نشاء جعلناه أجاجا» ملحا لا يمكن شربه «فلولا» هلا «تشكرون»

Verse 70

Do you see the fire which you kindle

«أفرأيتم النار التي تورون» تُخرجون من الشجر الأخضر

Verse 71

Is it you who made the tree to grow, or are We the grower

«أأنتم أنشأتم شجرتها» كالمرخ والعفار والكلخ «أم نحن المنشئون»

Verse 72

We have made it a reminder (of the hellfire in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travelers

«نحن جعلناها تذكرة» لنار جهنم «ومتاعا» بُلْغَة «للمقوين» للمسافرين من أقوى القوم: أي صاروا بالقوى بالقصر والمد أي القفر وهو مفازة لا نبات فيها ولا ماء

Verse 73

Then glorify the name of your Lord, the great

«فسبح» نزه «باسم» زائدة «ربك العظيم» الله

Verse 74

Surely I swear by the setting of the stars

«فلا أقسم» لا زائدة «بمواقع النجوم» بمساقطها لغروبها

Verse 75

and surely, that is a great oath, if you know

«وإنه» أي القسم بها «لقسم لو تعلمون عظيم» لو كنتم من ذوي العلم لعلمتم عظم هذا القسم

Verse 76

surely, this is indeed a honorable recital (the Qur’an)

«إنه» أي المتلو عليكم «لقرآن كريم»

Verse 77

in a book well-guarded (with Allah)

«في كتاب» مكتوب «مكنون» مصون وهو المصحف

Verse 78

which none can touch it (the Qur’an with Allah) except the purified (angels)

«لايمسّه» خبر بمعنى النهي «إلا المطهرون» الذين طهروا أنفسهم من الأحداث

Verse 79

a revelation (this Qur’an) from the Lord of the worlds

«تنزيل» منزل «من رب العالمين»

Verse 80

Is it such a talk (this Qur’an) that you (disbelievers) deny

«أفبهذا الحديث» القرآن «أنتم مدهنون» متهاونون مكذبون

Verse 81

and (instead of thanking Allah for) your provision He gives you, you deny (Him)

«وتجعلون رزقكم» من المطر، أي شكره «أنكم تكذبون» بسقيا الله حيث قلتم مطرنا بنوء كذا

Verse 82

Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat

«فلولا» فهلا «إذا بلغت» الروح وقت النزع «الحلقوم» هو مجرى الطعام

Verse 83

while you are looking at that moment

«وأنتم» يا حاضري الميت «حينئذ تنظرون» إليه

Verse 84

but We are nearer to him than you, but you don’t see (Allah)

«ونحن أقرب إليه منكم» بالعلم «ولكن لا تبصرون» من البصيرة، أي لا تعلمون ذلك

Verse 85

Why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense

«فلولا» فهلا «إن كنتم غير مدينين» مجزيين بأن تبعثوا، أي غير مبعوثين بزعمكم

Verse 86

bring back the soul (to its body) if you are truthful

«ترجعونها» تردون الروح إلى الجسد بعد بلوغ الحلقوم «إن كنتم صادقين» فيما زعمتم فلولا الثانية تأكيد للأولى وإذا ظرف لترجعون المتعلق به الشرطان والمعنى: هلا ترجعونها إن نفيتم البعث صادقين في نفيه، أي لينتفي عن محلها الموت كالبعث

Verse 87

Then, if the dying person be of those brought near (to Allah)

«فأما إن كان» الميت «من المقربين»

Verse 88

for him there is rest and provision, and a garden of delights (Paradise)

«فروْح» أي فله استراحة «وريحان» رزق حسن «وجنة نعيم» وهل الجواب لأما أو لإن أو لهما؟ أقوال

Verse 89

Yet if the dying person be of those on the right hand

«وأما إن كان من أصحاب اليمين»

Verse 90

then (there is greeting) ‘Peace be upon you’ for those from those on the right hand

«فسلام لك» أي له السلامة من العذاب «من أصحاب اليمين» من جهة أنه منهم

Verse 91

Yet if the dying person is one of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring

«وأما إن كان من المكذبين الضالين»

Verse 92

then (for him there) is entertainment from boiling water

(فنزل من حميم) من إضافة الموصوف إلى صفته

Verse 93

and burning in hellfire

(وتصلية جحيم) من إضافة الموصوف إلى صفته

Verse 94

Surely, this is an absolute truth with certainty

«إن هذا لهو حق اليقين» من إضافة الموصوف إلى صفته

Verse 95

So glorify with praises the name of your Lord, the greatest

«فسبح باسم ربك العظيم» تقدم
