77. Al-Mursalaat

By the emissary winds (sent forth) one after another

«والمرسلات عُرفا» أي الرياح متتابعة كعرف الفرس يتلو بعضه بعضا ونصبه على الحال

Verse 1

by the raging hurricanes

«فالعاصفات عصفا» الرياح الشديدة

Verse 2

by (the winds) that scatter (the clouds) to distant places

«والناشرات نشرا» الرياح تنشر المطر

Verse 3

then separate them one from another

«فالفارقات فرقا» أي آيات القرآن تفرق بين الحق والباطل والحلال والحرام

Verse 4

by those (angels) who bring down the reminder (to the Messengers)

«فالملقيات ذكرا» أي الملائكة تنزل بالوحي إلى الأنبياء والرسل يلقون الوحي إلى الأمم

Verse 5

either to (remove all) excuses or to (covey the) warning

«عذْرا أو نذرا» أي للإعذار والإنذار من الله تعالى وفي قراءة بضم ذال نذرا وقرئ بضم ذال عذرا

Verse 6

Surely, what you are promised must be fulfilled

«إنما توعدون» أي يا كفار مكة من البعث والعذاب «لواقع» كائن لا محالة

Verse 7

(It will be fulfilled) when the stars will lose their light

«فإذا النجوم طمست» محي نورها

Verse 8

when the heaven will cleft asunder

«وإذا السماء فرجت» شقت

Verse 9

when the mountains will blow away (into dust)

«وإذا الجبال نسفت» فتتت وسيرت

Verse 10

when the Messengers will be gathered to their appointed time

«وإذا الرسل أُقتت» بالواو وبالهمزة بدلا منها، أي جمعت لوقت

Verse 11

For what Day are these signs deferred

«لأي يوم» ليوم عظيم «أُجلت» للشهادة على أممهم بالتبليغ

Verse 12

For the Day of sorting out (judgment)

«ليوم الفصل» بين الخلق ويؤخذ منه جواب إذا، أي وقع الفصل بين الخلائق

Verse 13

What will make you know, what is the Day of sorting out

«وما أدراك ما يوم الفصل» تهويل لشأنه

Verse 14

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين» هذا وعيد لهم

Verse 15

Did We not destroy the previous generations (for evil deeds)

«ألم نهلك الأولين» بتكذيبهم، أي أهلكناهم

Verse 16

Then We shall make later generations to follow them

«ثم نتبعهم الآخرين» ممن كذبوا ككفار مكة فنهلكهم

Verse 17

Thus We will deal with the criminals

«كذلك» مثل ما فعلنا بالمكذبين «نفعل بالمجرمين» بكل من أجرم فيما يستقبل فنهلكهم

Verse 18

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين» تأكيد

Verse 19

Have We not created you from a worthless fluid (semen)

«أَلم نخلقكم من ماء مهين» ضعيف وهو المني

Verse 20

which We placed in a place of safety (womb)

«فجعلناه في قرار مكين» حريز وهو الرحم

Verse 21

for a known period

«إلى قدر معلوم» وهو وقت الولادة

Verse 22

So We have measured (its term) and We are the best to measure (things)

«فقَدرنا» على ذلك «فنعم القادرون» نحن

Verse 23

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 24

Have We not made the earth a home for both

«ألم نجعل الأرض كفاتا» مصدر كفت بمعنى ضم، أي ضامة

Verse 25

the living and the dead

«أحياءً» على ظهرها «وأمواتا» في بطنها

Verse 26

placed on it firm, tall and high mountains, and given you sweet water to drink

«وجعلنا فيها رواسيَ شامخات» جبالا مرتفعات «وأسقيناكم ماء فراتا» عذبا

Verse 27

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين» ويقال للمكذبين يوم القيامة

Verse 28

(It will be said to the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment): “You depart to that (hell) which you used to deny

«انطلقوا إلى ما كنتم به» من العذاب «تكذبون»

Verse 29

You depart towards the shadow (of hellfire smoke ascending) in 3 columns

«انطلقوا إلى ظل ذي ثلاث شعب» هو دخان جهنم إذا ارتفع افترق ثلاث فرق لعظمه

Verse 30

neither shady nor of any use against the fierce flame of the fire

«لا ظليل» كنين يظلهم من حر ذلك اليوم «ولا يغني» يرد عنهم شيئا «من اللهب» النار

Verse 31

surely! it (hell) throws up huge sparks like a castle

«إنها» أي النار «ترمي بشرر» هو ما تطاير منها «كالقصر» من البناء في عظمه وارتفاعه

Verse 32

as if they were yellow camels.”

(كأنه جمالات) جمالات جمع جمل وفي قراءة جمالت (صفر) في هيئتها ولونها وفي الحديث "" شرار الناس أسود كالقير "" والعرب تسمي سود الإبل صفرا لشوب سوادها بصفرة فقيل صفر في الآية بمعنى سود لما ذكر وقيل لا، والشرر: جمع شرارة، والقير: القار

Verse 33

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 34

That will be the Day when they shall not be able to speak

«هذا» أي يوم القيامة «يوم لا ينطقون» فيه بشيء

Verse 35

they will not be permitted to put forth any excuse for them

«ولا يؤذن لهم» في العذر «فيعتذرون» عطف على يؤذن من غير تسبب عنه فهو داخل في حيز النفي، أي لا إذن فلا اعتذار

Verse 36

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 37

Such will be the Day of decision! We will bring you and your previous generations together

«هذا يوم الفصل جمعناكم» أيها المكذبون من هذه الأمة «والأولين» من المكذبين قبلكم فتحاسبون وتعذبون جميعا

Verse 38

So, if you have a plot, then plot against Me

«فإن كان لكم كيد» حيلة في دفع العذاب عنكم «فكيدون» فافعلوها

Verse 39

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 40

Surely, the pious shall reside in shades and springs

«إن المتقين في ظلال» أي تكاثف أشجار إذ لا شمس يظل من حرها «وعيون» نابعة من الماء

Verse 41

and they will have whatever fruits they desire

«وفواكه مما يشتهون» فيه إعلام بأن المأكل والمشرب في الجنة بحسب شهواتهم بخلاف الدنيا فبحسب ما يجد الناس في الأغلب ويقال لهم

Verse 42

(It will be said to them): “Eat and drink comfortably for that which you used to do (good deeds).”

«كلوا واشربوا هنيئا» حال، أي متهنئين «بما كنتم تعملون» من الطاعة

Verse 43

Surely, thus We will reward the righteous

«إنا كذلك» كما جزينا المتقين «نجزي المحسنين»

Verse 44

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 45

(O disbelievers)! Eat and enjoy yourselves (in this worldly life) for a little while. Surely, you are the criminals

«كلوا وتمتعوا» خطاب للكفار في الدنيا «قليلا» من الزمان وغايته الموت، وفي هذا تهديد لهم «إنكم مجرمون»

Verse 46

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 47

When it is said to them: “Bow down yourself (in prayer before Allah)!” They don’t bow down

«وإذا قيل لهم اركعوا» صلوا «لا يركعون» لا يصلون

Verse 48

Woe on that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)

«ويل يومئذ للمكذبين»

Verse 49

Then in what statement after this (the Qur’an), will they believe

«فبأي حديث بعده» أي القرآن «يؤمنون» أي لا يمكن إيمانهم بغيره من كتب الله بعد تكذيبهم به لاشتماله على الإعجاز الذي لم يشتمل عليه غيره
