80. Abasa

He (the prophet) frowned and turned away

«عبس» النبي: كلح وجهه «وتولى» أعرضَ لأجل

Verse 1

when there came to him the blind man (Abdullah bin Umme Maktoom, who came to the prophet while the prophet was preaching to the chiefs of Makkah)

(أن جاءه الأعمى) عبد الله بن أم مكتوم فقطعه عما هو مشغول به ممن يرجو إسلامه من أشراف قريش الذين هو حريص على إسلامهم، ولم يدر الأعمى أنه مشغول بذلك فناداه: علمني مما علمك الله، فانصرف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى بيته فعوتب في ذلك بما نزل في هذه السورة، فكان بعد ذلك يقول له إذا جاء: "" مرحبا بمن عاتبني فيه ربي "" ويبسط له رداءه

Verse 2

And how can you know? He might become pure (from sins)

«وما يُدريك» يعلمك «لعله يزكى» فيه إدغام التاء في الأصل في الزاي، أي يتطهر من الذنوب بما يسمع منك

Verse 3

or he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him

«أو يذكَّر» فيه إدغام التاء في الأصل في الذال أي يتعظ «فتنفعُه الذكرى» العظة المسموعة منك وفي قراءة بنصب تنفعه جواب الترجي

Verse 4

As for those who think themselves indifferent

«أما من استغنى» بالمال

Verse 5

to whom you were attending

«فأنت له تصدى» وفي قراءة بتشديد الصاد بإدغام التاء الثانية في الأصل فيها: تقبل وتتعرض

Verse 6

you will not be held responsible, if they would not purify themselves (your duty is to convey the message of Allah)

«وما عليك ألا يزكى» يؤمن

Verse 7

Yet, to him who came to you running (with enthusiasm)

«وأما من جاءك يسعى» حال من فاعل جاء

Verse 8

and with fear (of Allah)

«وهو يخشى» الله حال من فاعل يسعى وهو الأعمى

Verse 9

you were unmindful from him

«فأنت عنه تَلَهَّى» فيه حذف التاء الأخرى في الأصل أي تتشاغل

Verse 10

Nay, (you should not do so), indeed this is an admonition

«كلا» لا تفعل مثل ذلك «إنها» أي السورة أو الآيات «تذكرة» عظة للخلق

Verse 11

so those who want, let them pay attention to it

«فمن شاء ذكره» حفظ ذلك فاتعظ به

Verse 12

It is written in honored records

«في صحف» خبر ثان لأنها وما قبله اعتراض «مكرمة» عند الله

Verse 13

exalted (in dignity), purified

«مرفوعة» في السماء «مطهرة» منزهة عن مس الشياطين

Verse 14

in the hands of scribes (angels)

«بأيدي سفرة» كتبة ينسخونها من اللوح المحفوظ

Verse 15

(who are) honorable and obedient

«كرام بررة» مطيعين لله تعالى وهم الملائكة

Verse 16

Be cursed (disbelieving) people! How ungrateful they are

«قتل الإنسان» لعن الكافر «ما أكفره» استفهام توبيخ، أي ما حمله على الكفر

Verse 17

Out of what He has created them

«من أي شيءٍ خلقه» استفهام تقرير، ثم بينه فقال

Verse 18

From semen drop He has created them and then set them in due proportion

«من نطفة خلقه فقدره» علقة ثم مضغة إلى آخر خلقه

Verse 19

then makes their way (of life) easy for them

«ثم السبيل» أي طريق خروجه من بطن أمه «يَسَّره»

Verse 20

then causes them to die and puts them in their graves

«ثم أماته فأقبره» جعله في قبر يستره

Verse 21

Then, He will surely resurrect them again when He wills

«ثم إذا شاء أنشره» للبعث

Verse 22

Nay, but they (disbelievers) have not fulfilled what He has commanded them

«كلا» حقا «لمَّا يقض» لم يفعل «ما أمره» به ربه

Verse 23

Then let people look at their food

«فلينظر الإنسان» نظر اعتبار «إلى طعامه» كيف قدر ودبر له

Verse 24

We pour out water (rain) in abundance

«أنا صببنا الماء» من السحاب «صبا»

Verse 25

then split the earth (soil) in clefts

«ثم شققنا الأرض» بالنبات «شقا»

Verse 26

And We cause to grow in it the grain

«فأنبتنا فيها حبا» كالحنطة والشعير

Verse 27

and grapes and clover plants

«وعنبا وقضبا» هو القت الرطب

Verse 28

and olives and date-palms

«وزيتونا ونخلا»

Verse 29

and gardens, dense with many trees

«وحدائق غلبا» بساتين كثيرة الأشجار

Verse 30

and fruits and fodder

«وفاكهة وأبّا» ما ترعاه البهائم وقيل التبن

Verse 31

as a provision and benefit for you and your cattle

«متاعا» متعة أو تمتيعا كما تقدم في السورة قبلها «لكم ولأنعامكم» تقدم فيها أيضا

Verse 32

Then when there will come the deafening shout

«فإذا جاءت الصاخة» النفخة الثانية

Verse 33

on that Day a person will flee from his brother

«يوم يفر المرء من أخيه»

Verse 34

and his mother and his father

«وأمه وأبيه»

Verse 35

and his spouse and its children

«وصاحبته» زوجته «وبنيه» يوم بدل من إذا، وجوابها دل عليه

Verse 36

On that Day, every person will have enough concern to become careless of others

«لكل امرىءٍ منهم يومئذ شأن يغنيه» حال يشغله عن شأن غيره، أي اشتغل كل واحد بنفسه

Verse 37

Some faces on that Day will be bright (for true believers)

وجوه يومئذ مسفرة» مضيئة

Verse 38

laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise)

«ضاحكة مستبشرة» فرحة وهم المؤمنون

Verse 39

And other faces on that Day will be dusty

«ووجوه يومئذ عليها غَبَرة» غبار

Verse 40

darkness will cover them

«ترهقها» تغشاها «قترة» ظلمة وسواد

Verse 41

Such will be the (faces of the) disbelieving wicked

«أولئك» أهل هذه الحال «هم الكفرة الفجرة» أي الجامعون بين الكفر والفجور

Verse 42
