Surah 88. Al-Ghaashiya
Has the news of the overwhelming event (of Resurrection) reached you
«هل» قد «أتاك حديث الغاشية» القيامة لأنها تغشى الخلائق بأهوالها
Verse 1On that Day some faces will be humiliated (in the hellfire)
«وجوه يومئذٍ» عبر بها عن الذوات في الموضوعين «خاشعة» ذليلة
Verse 2in hard labor, worn out
«عاملة ناصبة» ذات نصب وتعب بالسلاسل والأغلال
Verse 3burn in the hot blazing fire
«تصلى» بفتح التاء وضمها «نارا حامية»
Verse 4given to drink from a boiling spring
«تسقى من عين آنية» شديدة الحرارة
Verse 5They will have no food except bitter thorny fruit
«ليس لهم طعام إلا من ضريع» هو نوع من الشوك لا ترعاه دابة لخبثه
Verse 6that will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger
«لا يسمن ولا يغني من جوع»
Verse 7Other faces on that Day will be joyful
«وجوه يومئذ ناعمة» حسنة
Verse 8pleased with their endeavors (of good deeds)
«لسعيها» في الدنيا بالطاعة «راضية» في الآخرة لما رأت ثوابه
Verse 9in a high garden (Paradise)
«في جنة عالية» حسا ومعنى
Verse 10They will hear no vain talk in it
«لا يسمع» بالياء والتاء «فيها لاغية» أي نفس ذات لغوٍ: هذيان من الكلام
Verse 11They will have a running spring in it
«فيها عين جارية» بالماء بمعنى عيون
Verse 12They will be on thrones raised high in it
«فيها سرر مرفوعة» ذاتا وقدرا ومحلا
Verse 13with cups placed at hand
«وأكواب» أقداح لا عرى لها «موضوعة» على حافات العيون معدة لشربهم
Verse 14and cushions set in rows
«ونمارق» وسائد «مصفوفة» بعضها بجنب بعض يستند إليها
Verse 15and rich carpets spread out
«وزرابيُّ» بسط طنافس لها خمل «مبثوثة» مبسوطة
Verse 16Don’t they look at the camels, how they are created
«أفلا ينظرون» أي كفار مكة نظر اعتبار «إلى الإبل كيف خُلقت»
Verse 17And the sky, how it is raised
«وإلى السماء كيف رُفعت»
Verse 18And the mountains, how they are fixed firmly
«وإلى الجبال كيف نُصبت»
Verse 19And the earth, how it is spread out
«وإلى الأرض كيف سُطحت» أي بسطت، فيستدلون بها على قدرة الله تعالى ووحدانيته، وصدرت بالإبل لأنهم أشد ملابسة لها من غيرها، وقوله: سُطحت ظاهر في الأرض سطح، وعليه علماء الشرع، لا كرة كما قاله أهل الهيئة وإن لم ينقض ركنا من أركان الشرع
Verse 20So remind them (O Muhammad), you are only a reminder
«فذكر» ـهم نعم الله ودلائل توحيده «إنما أنت مذكر»
Verse 21not a dictator over them
«لست عليهم بمصيطر» وفي قراءة بالسين بدل الصاد، أي بمسلط وهذا قبل الأمر بالجهاد
Verse 22Except those who turn away and disbelieve
«إلا» لكن «من تولى» أعرض عن الإيمان «وكفر» بالقرآن
Verse 23then Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment
«فيعَذِّبه الله العذاب الأكبر» عذاب الآخرة والأصغر عذاب الدنيا بالقتل والأسر
Verse 24Surely, to Us will be their return
«إن إلينا إيابهم» رجوعهم بعد الموت
Verse 25then surely, We will take their reckoning
«ثم إن علينا حسابهم» جزاءهم لا نتركه أبدا
